Badlands National Park (Lakota: Makȟóšiča) is a national park in southwestern South Dakota that protects 242,756 acres (379.306 sq mi; 98,240 ha) of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires blended with the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in the United States. The park is managed by the National Park Service.

The Badlands Wilderness protects 64,144 acres (100.225 sq mi; 25,958 ha) of the park as a designated wilderness area and is the site of the reintroduction of the black-footed ferret, the most endangered land mammal in North America.

The South Unit, or Stronghold Unit, is co-managed with the Oglala Lakota tribeand includes sites of 1890s Ghost Dances, a former United States Air Force bomb and gunnery range, and Red Shirt Table, the park's highest point at 3,340 feet (1,020 m).

Authorized as Badlands National Monument on March 4, 1929, it was not established until January 25, 1939. It was redesignated a national park on November 10, 1978.

Under the Mission 66 plan, the Ben Reifel Visitor Center was constructed for the monument in 1957–58. The park also administers the nearby Minuteman Missile National Historic Site.

   这个国家公园的中文名字翻译的不怎么样，要是听中文名字其实兴趣并不大，但是美国能划为国家公园的质量都不错，对得起国家公园这个名称。Badlands在Rapid City东顶，开车也不远，所以我们决定花上半天时间看看这个国家公园。其实这个公园是典型的丹霞地貌，跟张掖的丹霞属一类地貌，保存的不错，没有多少人工的痕迹，更没有麻子面馆。美中不足的是，天气不够好，云层很厚。

  Rapid City这个名字我记得比较拂袖，因为闹过一次笑话，以前也知道这个名字，翻译成中文就成了快速的城市，结果再翻译回去就变成了quick city了，一次和美国人聊天，就说到这个城市的名字了，然后我就说成了quick city，对方想了半天，后来对上了Rapid City，所以就记住了，再也没忘了。Rapid City有一个爬行动物园，看网上的介绍很不错，我们就留了一个上午到这里看看，说 爬行动物，肯定有蛇，鳄鱼什么的，这也是妞妈最害怕的，没办法，妞妈几乎也是硬着头皮去的，其实也没那么吓人。







  一小鳄鱼，嘴被绑了起来，皮肤冷冷的。那些大的鳄鱼都在园子里，几乎是一动不动的，讲解的人员是跳着从鳄鱼中出来了，敲着桶那些鳄鱼也是没反应，直到扔了一些鸡翅到地上，这些鳄鱼才开始有反应，也是典型的有奶便是娘。






  总统们的雕像就是南达科它州的标记，到处都能看到，这里还有个微型的。






  鳄鱼表演完了，还有鸟的表演，有鹦鹉，有鹰，有州鸟，甚至还有鸡，很有趣的表演。







  还有蛇的表演，玩儿蛇的小伙子很帅，大蛇小蛇都能玩儿，还能玩儿毒蛇。期间帅哥也说，这里的蛇就是养着，不象CSU弄到活的就解剖了。没想到帅哥还拿CSU开涮，CSU也是相当出名了。




  这个是非常有特点 的，超近距离的接触这些小动物，它们也是习惯了，一点儿也不怕人。
















  我们还去了Rapid City的博物馆，展示着相当久远的历史，一进门是满天的星空，象是从生命开始讲述一个遥远的故事。
